Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is his first trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Success also signifies he has won 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended four early opportunities in a close third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
